  1. Are you dreaming of a White Christmas or just for the iPhone XS Max? Well, if you're anything like me neither is going to happen Do you have any traditions (family or otherwise!?) personally I always like to go to the St Peters Brighton Carol Service on Christmas Eve. In fact I like to go to as many events on the lead up to Christmas--I play at some concerts/carol services too. As for the weather during the Christmas period we'll be looking at that from Saturday (1st December). What are your thoughts/hopes?
  2. Well, model output certainty hasn't been boring for the last few weeks. 12z is currently running and it's snowing the possibility of some snow showers in the east and south east (although I suspect this won't amount to much--famous last words!). Share your thoughts and opinons on the model output below...

New snow advisory. There will also be an observational map which will be issued for informational purposes only and will be published after any decision making at Metcast/Snow Watch when an advisory is not considered suitable.

    Snow Watch Website Issues

Good afternoon! We are investigating some server issues with snowwatch.org.uk which is currently preventing us from launching the site. As I'm sure you're aware Snow Watch is meant to launch today however this situation puts that at jeopardy. We'll update you here when we know more. The giveaway should not be affected and we'll still be choosing a winner at 9pm providing the site is still accessible. A separate announcement will be made once we are told everything is resolved.

    Winter 2018/19 Early Thoughts

First, significant snowfall in the United Kingdom. My guess would be sometime between 15th November and 1st December. Anyone dare to say a particular date.. ? Winners will get my respect and if you live in the South East a pint on me.
  11. A place to share your weather pictures and any observations..

    Snow and Ice

Our child project, Snow Watch (snowwatch.org.uk) is well overdue an upgrade in the advisory department and we are overhauling the way we issue them. First let me explain how we are going to deal with ice hazards. SWIceCold.mp4 Visually, our snow SWAs don’t look all that different. The main big change, for now is the way we issue them. So, let's get down to the nitty-gritty. Each risk map will be for one 24 hour period. So if we issue a map for 24th November 2018 from 14:00 to 23:59 and a map is required for the 25th then a new map will be issued. There can be more than one time period in a 24 hour day. For example, 24th November 2018 from 14:00 to 23:59 AND 24th November 2018 from 10:00 to 16:00. Dotted lines, with the badges show what time fronts will move in and indicate when snowfall is likely. This will only be included when there's reasonable confidence. If advisories are already issued a separate map will be drawn up--examples of these will follow in the coming weeks. In most cases one of our forecasters will write a blog post but additionally a description for the advisory will be available on the Snow Watch Status page and will look something like this... the new uk snow advisory can also be seen below. Bear in mind that these maps are in beta mode and will most likely be updated, if this happens we'll post the updated version here for further feedback. Let us know what you think, any requested changes will be considered. All feedback is very much appreciated.

Autumn 2018 - Forecasts and Windstorms

@James Young Ah, good ol' Wikipedia. I don't trust half of the information posted there. I'm going to email the Met Office and ask. I'll post the reply here if I hear back from them.
